Lana, an American daughter of missionaries, returns to Los Angeles from Palestine to work with the homeless. Raised in Ohio, South Africa, and the Middle East, she's a global citizen connected through the internet and aware of Americans' cultural ignorance and patriotism. Her uncle Paul, a Vietnam War veteran, is a bigot and paranoid, living in a surveillance van and convinced of conspiracies and terrorist cells. After they meet, they travel to Trone to deliver a murdered Pakistani man's body to his family, where Paul sees a different reality.
