Post-World War II Denmark sees German prisoners of war laboring to clear landmines from the western beaches, a dangerous and daunting task. A sergeant, Carl Leopold Rasmussen, oversees a unit of inexperienced boys, whose struggles to survive and complete their work slowly transform his hatred for Germans into empathy as they face the devastating consequences of their situation.
