The film follows the LaFleur family's struggles to survive in the Deep South during the Civil War era. The family consists of seven sisters, each with their own unique characteristics and storylines. The eldest sister, Violet, communicates with her father's mummified corpse in the family crypt. Meanwhile, the youngest sister, Daisy Mae, a deaf-mute simpleton, is sexually assaulted by a local simpleton named Judd. Lilly Lee, a nymph, attempts to make a living at a local brothel, while Hecuba, a local witch, has a mysterious connection to the LaFleur family.
