A man, Jerry Lewis, is diagnosed with a terminal illness by his doctor and best friend, Peter Lawford. Despite his friend's diagnosis, Lewis decides to live life to the fullest, accumulating insurmountable debts. However, his friend later reveals that the diagnosis was incorrect, and Lewis' reckless behavior will ultimately ruin his life. To spare his wife and family the consequences of his actions, Lewis and his friend stage his own death. But Lewis soon discovers that his friend has ulterior motives, aiming to win over his wife.
