In June 1941, as German forces occupy Przemysl's eastern side, the Jewish Diamant family entrusts their belongings to their 17-year-old Catholic maid, Fusia, to protect them from the Nazis. In return, Fusia provides the family with food until the ghetto is dismantled, and later hides 13 people in her loft for over two years. Despite the dire circumstances, everything seems doomed when two German nurses take up residence in Fusia's apartment as the front approaches.
