Kamal Haasan plays Guna, a mentally unstable individual who receives treatment in a Hyderabad mental asylum. He has a troubled relationship with his father and his mother is a mistress in their home. Guna develops a delusional persona, assuming the character of Abirami, a goddess he believes is his fiancée, and sets his mind on marrying her on a full moon day. After his release from the asylum, Guna becomes convinced that Abirami is real and sets out to find her.
