A woman, Brenda Martin, enters a medical center with minor injuries and emotional distress after being carjacked by an unknown black man. She tells her story to a detective, Lorenzo Council, and reveals that her four-year-old son was asleep in the car and is now in the hands of the carjacker. As the investigation unfolds, tensions rise between Council and Brenda's brother, a police detective, who feels Council is not doing his job and is protecting his own community.
