In a predominantly Chinese neighborhood of New York, an illegal immigrant named Cheung is arrested by US Immigration Officers. Desperate to stay in the country, he enlists the help of his friend's Chinese-American sister, Cindy Li, to marry him in a sham union that will facilitate his green card application. However, the Immigration Officers remain skeptical about the legitimacy of their marriage, and Cheung's troubles are compounded by threats from Dai Fu, a ruthless smuggler who is demanding payment for his role in bringing Cheung into the US.
