In the winter of 1944, a 21-year-old woman named Lucía returns to her small mountain village, where she reunites with a young blacksmith named Manuel. Manuel secretly aids the anti-Franco resistance, known as the "maquis," who risk their lives to fight for their beliefs. Lucía is drawn to Manuel's bravery and charming smile. However, when Manuel is pursued by the Civil Guard, he flees to the mountains, and Lucía is forced to confront the harsh reality of political repression, including the silence, horror, and fear that it inspires.
