An Austrian boy joins the Vienna Choirboys, earning the support of his mother and eventually his father. As a new recruit, he faces initiation ordeals from his seniors, fueled by jealousy from Peter, the head chorister, who is struggling with his voice breaking. However, with the encouragement of the director and his peers, Peter finds a new sense of purpose as a composer and conductor.
