In Sweetwater, Kansas, a group of young Express riders were based at the waystation, led by the enigmatic Teaspoon Hunter, a former Texas Ranger. The station's domestic duties were shared by Emma and later Rachel, while the riders consisted of notable figures like Buffalo Bill Cody and Wild Bill Hickok, as well as Ike, a mute; Buck, a half-White, half-Kiowa scout; the Kid, a quiet Southerner; and Lou, a young woman who disguised herself as a boy.
