Connie Drego, a woman who served two years in jail for shooting her cheating husband Sonny in the buttocks, returns home to her motel after her absence. She finds that her older daughter Madeline kept the motel open, but Connie is determined to rebuild her life and do things right this time. However, her journey is complicated by her younger daughter Kerri's puberty, Sonny's continued presence in one of the motel rooms, and her daughter Madeline's marriage to Duane Cooper, a naive state trooper who arrested Connie.
