In the dying days of the Pony Express, two heavyset riders, John Blair and Larry Adams, are out of a job. They buy the Crescent City line and equipment from Cal Drake, only to find the town is a ghost mining town with only two residents. John decides to operate the line anyway and learns about a coach race to win a $25,000 government mail contract. He signs up and, with the help of a telegraph crew, secures laborers to run the line. However, Drake tries to sabotage John's efforts and even ambushes him, but John outsmarts him and returns to collect his payment.
