Evelyn was arrested for the murder of her husband, John, after his torso was discovered with his head and limbs sawed off and evidence of burning in her home's furnace. Despite being acquitted of her husband's murder, Evelyn was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the murder of her son. She was released in 1958, but her whereabouts after that remain unknown.
