In 1970, a family flees Belo Horizonte in a hurry, leaving their 10-year-old son Mauro behind. They promise to return before the World Cup and leave him with his grandfather, but upon arrival, they discover the grandfather has passed away. Alone and scared, Mauro is taken in by his neighbors and the Jewish community, making new friends and watching World Cup the unfold while waiting for his parents to return.
