Set during the 1877 Russian-Turkish war, the film follows Erast Fandorin, a prisoner who has escaped from Turkish captivity and is racing to reach the Russian side with crucial information about an impending enemy attack. Along the way, he encounters Varvara Suvorova, a young woman on her way to visit her fiancé, a Russian soldier. As they navigate the treacherous landscape, they must also uncover the identity of a spy lurking within the Russian army, where everyone is under suspicion.
