A renowned pathologist, Dr. Warren Chapin, investigates the human psyche by conducting autopsies on executed prisoners. He posits that a mysterious creature, known as the Tingler, dwells within each person, fueled by fear. The creature is held at bay by the ability to scream, which Chapin aims to test on Martha Higgins, a deaf and mute woman, by inducing nightmares through LSD.
