In June 1941, a group of Ukrainian teenagers are excited for their summer vacation to Kiev, unaware of the impending war. The group includes Damian, a top student with a scholarship to Kiev University, his girlfriend Marina, his brother Kolya, a junior air corps officer, and their friends Clavdia and Grisha. However, their plans are disrupted when Germany invades the Soviet Union, and they find themselves caught between the village and Kiev, trying to make their way back home.
