A mysterious hitchhiker and a young woman form an unlikely bond when they pick each other up in a small town, only to find themselves entangled in a web of secrets and deception as they navigate the town's dark underbelly.

Marion Scott, a WW II veteran, hitchhikes to a small town to start a new life, only to get arrested with Wilhelmina Hammond, a wealthy society girl, for car theft. Wilhelmina is intrigued by Marion and helps him get released, taking him to her estate where they face more arrests and scrutiny from the press. Despite the chaos, Wilhelmina hires Marion as her chauffeur, and their constant bickering masks a deeper attraction.
