Set in German-occupied Norway, the film tells the story of the Norwegian resistance's efforts to sabotage the German development of the atomic bomb. Resistance fighter Knut Straud enlists the reluctant physicist Dr. Rolf Pedersen to destroy a German heavy water production plant. Pedersen's ex-wife and uncle also join the resistance, and they work together to destroy the plant. However, the Germans are able to quickly resume production due to their contingency plans.
