In 1665, New France is a colonialized region of Canada. Joseph Côté flees a prison to avoid hanging, taking on the identity of a Jesuit. He finds refuge in the Beaufort seigneury, where French women, known as "daughters of the king," await marriage. By night, Joseph discovers the village is plagued by werewolves. Complicating matters, he falls for Marie Labotte, a "daughter of the king" unwanted by others. As Joseph fights to protect his life and Marie's, he must confront the werewolves.
