A remote settlement is besieged by a group of ruthless thugs, former Soviet Gulag prisoners, in the summer of 1953. The townspeople join forces with two political prisoners to defend their home against the bloodthirsty attackers.

In a remote Siberian village, two former political prisoners, Sergei and Nikolai, try to rebuild their lives after being released from prison as part of the 1953 Soviet gulag amnesty. However, their new freedom is short-lived as eight pardoned common criminals begin to terrorize the villagers.
