In a New York City park, a mentally ill composer and father of a city cop, Romulus, lives in a cave. On Valentine's Day, a young man freezes in a nearby tree, and the police deem it an accidental death. However, Romulus believes the victim was murdered by an avant-garde photographer, David Leppenraub, after a young man claiming to be the victim's friend tells him so.
