In 1850, a British garrison defends Fort Kandahar on the North West Frontier of British India. Lieutenant Case, a mixed-race officer, is accused of cowardice and treason after being court-martialed for abandoning his fellow officer, Captain Connelly, during a mission. Case is freed by his native servant and joins the rebel chieftain Ali Khan's forces, training his troops and preparing for an assault on the fort.
