Two veterans of the Napoleonic war, Jacob and Veith, return to a remote mountain village in Austria-Hungary in 1813. They soon discover that the village is plagued by a mysterious evil that lurks in the nearby woods. The creatures, known for their brutal violence and cunning, demand that the villagers provide them with women's bodies to propagate. As Jacob and Veith struggle to come to terms with the situation, they must also confront their own courage and humanity. The fate of the village hangs in the balance as the two men, along with other villagers, prepare for a bloody and desperate battle.
