In 1911 Wales, a young Jewish man struggles to make a living while hiding his identity, selling fabrics door-to-door. He falls in love with a demure woman from a family with a strong-willed father and a Jew-hating brother. As their relationship deepens, she becomes pregnant, but only then discovers his Jewish heritage. When anti-Semitic riots erupt, the couple is forced to flee and become separated.
