Seven Years in Tibet background

Seven Years in Tibet

In the midst of war, a daring Austrian mountaineer finds himself a prisoner, only to escape and forge an unlikely bond with the 14th Dalai Lama, Tibet's revered spiritual leader.

In 1939, Nazi SS Officer Heinrich Harrer flees Austria to climb Nanga Parbat in British India, but is arrested and taken to a POW camp after WWII is declared. He eventually breaks out and, with Peter, reaches the forbidden city of Lhasa, where they are sheltered and meet the Dalai Lama. Harrer befriends the child and learns about Buddhism, but their peaceful existence is disrupted by the Chinese invasion.
