In feudal Japan, the arrival of American imperialists sparks tensions, prompting a lord to organize a grueling marathon to test his troops' abilities. As the competition unfolds across the country's diverse landscapes, the shogunate in Edo views the event with disdain and dispatches spies to gather intel. Amidst the chaos, a mole becomes aware of the misunderstanding and sets out to prevent unnecessary bloodshed and damage to relationships, embarking on a perilous journey to change the course of events.

The year is 1855, and a daimyo tests his samurai by sending them on a treacherous journey to prove their worthiness to confront the newly arrived American forces. However, the Shogun misinterprets the daimyo's intent and sends assassins instead.
