A team of astronauts, led by Lloyd Bridges, embark on a mission to explore the moon, but a craft malfunction and miscalculated fuel levels send them off course, landing on Mars instead. Upon arrival, they discover remnants of a former advanced civilization, which was devastated by an atomic war. The survivors, who appear human, have regressed to a primitive, caveman-like state.
