A Kansas City waitress, Betty, becomes delusional after witnessing her husband's murder, believing she's the former fiancée of her soap opera idol and that the show is real. She travels to Los Angeles to find the cardiologist and hospital, while the husband's murderers search for stolen drugs hidden in her car. Meanwhile, an aging hitman, Charlie, is tasked with tracking her, but also becomes delusional about the woman.
