Peter Foster, a 23-year-old who still lives at home, copes with his parents' constant arguing by retreating into a fantasy world. After a family counseling session, Peter convinces the counselor to let him go away for a week to work on his individual therapy. He keeps a diary to document his time away, but secretly plans to insert himself into another family's life as an adopted son.
