Amitabh Bachchan plays a young man named Arjun, who leaves his village to start a new life in the city. He finds a job as a servant in a luxurious hotel owned by Shashi Kapoor, where he falls in love with Smita Patil. However, their happiness is threatened by attempts to kill Kapoor by Satyendra Kapoor and his son, which Arjun must thwart.
