Pierce Mundy, a 30-year-old man, drifts through life after struggling to find work as a heavy equipment operator. He works at his parents' dry cleaners in a poor neighborhood of Inglewood, Los Angeles. Despite his aimlessness, Pierce strongly dislikes his lawyer brother Wendell, who is engaged to Sonia Dubois. Pierce vows to be best man at their wedding and also promises to look out for his friend Soldier, who is about to be released from prison. However, things become complicated when Soldier is killed in an accident, and his funeral coincides with the wedding. This sets the stage for Pierce to decide where his loyalties truly lie.
