Colleagues at John Hadland's photographic equipment supplier began falling ill in the summer of 1971, and the "Bovingdon Bug" took hold of many workers. Two men, Bob Egle and Fred Biggs, died slow and painful deaths. Investigators found that the only impurity at Hadland's was Graham Young, a 23-year-old trainee who had been lacing the workforce's tea and coffee with a lethal poison. Young had a toxic past, having been incarcerated at Broadmoor at age 14 after methodically poisoning his father and sister, and confessing to killing his stepmother by lacing a trifle with Thallium.
