In a POW camp in Singapore, Allied prisoners, mostly British, but also a few Americans, are incarcerated after the Japanese invasion in 1942. The camp, Changi prison, has no walls or fences because escape is impossible. Among the prisoners is American Corporal King, who has established a good life, eating well and wearing clean clothes daily, unlike his starving and ragged fellow prisoners.
