In 1944, Mary Bailey Hatch, a devoted businesswoman, struggles with a crisis that threatens her family's reputation and business in Bedford Falls, New York. As she prays for guidance, the townspeople, including her husband and children, also offer prayers for her. Meanwhile, Joseph, God's gatekeeper, assigns an inexperienced angel, Clara Oddbody, to Mary's case.
