After arriving home from college for the summer, Esther's dormant issues with eating disorders are reignited by a conversation at dinner with her controlling mother, Helen. Esther abuses prescription medications to curb the urges to binge and purge, driving her into fugue states that consist of frightening and violent hallucinations of a figure resembling her mother. Her fugue states blur indistinguishably with reality causing Esther to spiral into a massive binge and purge episode. When Helen discovers her, tensions reach a breaking point and they both lose control in an explosive confrontation.
