In 1900 Paris, Monsieur Feydeau, a struggling playwright, seeks inspiration from the upper class. He observes the lives of Monsieur Boniface, a man trapped in a loveless marriage, and Henri, a neglectful husband with a beautiful wife, Marcelle. Meanwhile, Henri's investigation into strange noises leads him to the notorious Hotel Paradiso, where Marcelle and Boniface are having an affair. As multiple relationships and characters converge at the hotel, a police raid adds to the chaos, providing fodder for Feydeau's next play, which becomes a huge success.
