Ronny Bowers, a saxophonist in Benny Goodman's band, wins a talent contest and a contract with a film studio. He's supposed to accompany star Mona Marshall to a movie premiere, but she declines. Instead, the studio uses a double, Virginia. When Mona finds out, she demands to fire Virginia and Ronny. Ronny finds work as a singing waiter at a drive-in, where he's spotted by a director who wants him to lend his voice to a leading actor in a musical.
