In 1979, original footage was captured of a thriving farming community in Glencoe, Minnesota, 60 miles west of Minneapolis, for a PBS documentary. However, Louis Malle didn't complete the project for six years, until 1985, when he returned to find the community struggling with the crisis of overproduction in farm country.
