In the village of Accendura, a boy named Bruno Lo Casio goes missing, and a police investigation ensues. Despite initial arrests and false leads, the murders continue, and suspicion falls on a local witch, Maciara, who is later brutally killed by the superstitious villagers. Meanwhile, a journalist from Rome, Andrea Martelli, arrives in the village and befriends Patrizi, a wealthy entrepreneur's daughter, who is living there after a scandal. Together, they uncover a possible witness to the murders: a six-year-old girl with a slow development, who may hold the key to solving the case.
