Gina and Seth, pen pals since childhood, have grown insecurities about themselves and have been exchanging emails instead of sharing personal photos or phone numbers. They've both fallen for each other, but neither has confessed or mustered the courage to reveal their true identities. When Seth, a toy company executive, heads to Boston for a convention, Gina, a struggling reporter, gets her first big assignment to cover the event. She knows Seth will be there, but doesn't reveal her true purpose. They convince their "photo" alter egos, Ellen and Matt, to take their place at the meeting, but things get complicated as Ellen and Matt start falling for each other, causing tension in their friendships with Gina and Seth. Meanwhile, Gina and Seth meet at the conference, unaware of each other's true identities, and begin to fall in love, not wanting to betray their feelings for who they think are Seth and Gina. However, Seth discovers that "the reporter" he's falling for has sensitive information that could ruin his career, but could also break open her stagnant reporting career.
