Casa Grande background

Casa Grande

A coming-of-age story set among Rio's wealthy elite, Casa Grande delves into the struggles of a teenage boy as he navigates his overbearing parents' downfall, all while hiding their financial decline.

In this affluent neighborhood in suburban Rio de Janeiro, 17-year-old Jean Cavalcanti lives a life of moderate privilege with his family, including his parents, sister, and household staff. With little parental guidance, Jean turns to the staff for companionship, including his chauffeur Severino, who introduces him to his first sexual experience. When Severino is let go due to financial issues, Jean is forced to take public transportation, where he meets Luiza, a mixed-race girl from a different background. As Jean navigates his relationships and the challenges of his privileged life, he remains unaware of the financial struggles his family is facing, including the potential loss of their home.
