Achootty, a fisherman, dreams of his daughter Radha becoming a doctor, but she elopes with her childhood friend, earning Achootty's initial disapproval. As time passes, Radha's husband proves himself to be a skilled and hardworking fisherman, earning Achootty's silent respect. However, Achootty continues to publicly taunt him, challenging him to catch a shark. When Radha's husband goes out to sea to prove himself, he gets lost and is presumed dead by the community. Achootty, feeling guilty and misunderstood, goes out to sea and rescues his son-in-law, bringing him back to shore. Despite being cleared of wrongdoing, Achootty feels abandoned and finds solace in the only thing that has loved him unconditionally - the sea.
