Bunty, a young man from Mumbai, refuses to marry his girlfriend Tanya after witnessing his parents' constant bickering. He meets her eccentric grandfather, Professor Anthony Gonsalves, who has invented a time-travel machine. Bunty travels back to 1975, when Mumbai was called Bombay, and meets his parents when they were younger. He is shocked to find his father a timid and his mother a tomboy. Amidst the backdrop of the Raman Raghav terror, the impending Emergency, and the rise of superstar Rajesh Khanna, Bunty tries to set things right between his bickering parents and feuding grandparents. However, he soon discovers that his mother has another suitor who will stop at nothing to marry her.
