A widowed father and his son run a custom furniture business in British Columbia, with the father being a perfectionist and the son trying to balance quality with financial security. Their lives are disrupted by the return of an old friend, a wealthy developer who commissions chairs for his new lodge. The son agrees to the project, keeping it a secret from his father, who is an idealistic hippie who dodged the draft during the Vietnam War. As the project progresses, the son struggles with his own values and the pressure to succeed financially, while his new girlfriend sees a future in the valley. A secret kept by the father may change everything.
