Struggling author Robert Sandell agrees to undergo experiments by Dr. Lamb in exchange for financial support and medical aid for his ailing mother. As Robert is strapped to an operating table, he discovers the true purpose of the experiments: to prove the theory of evolution by transforming humans into ape-like creatures. However, just as the procedure begins, a hunchbacked assistant frees an ape-man from captivity, who then kills Dr. Lamb.
