Game Show Network's "Whammy!" was an adaptation of CBS's classic game show, "Press Your Luck," serving as a companion series for reruns of the original show. The game featured three contestants who competed in a three-round format where each contestant started with $1,000. The first round, known as the Bonus Board, consisted of an 18-space oval-shaped PYL board with cash amounts, prize names, and Whammy spaces (explained later). Contestants stopped the randomly-flashing cursor by pressing their signaling device and won whatever was in the lit space. They could choose to freeze their winnings or risk them for increased odds at hitting a Whammy space. If they hit a Whammy space, the contestant lost all their winnings up to that point. The game continued with another round called the Question Round where Newton asked a toss-up question, and each player had three spins. Afterward, a Final Bonus Board round was played, allowing players to pass their earned spins to opponents if they feared landing on a Whammy. In both classic and rerun versions of "Whammy!", contestants could land on multiple Whammy spaces. If four or more Whammys appeared, the game ended for that contestant. The player with the highest score won; other players who scored $0 or fewer were given another chance to appear on a future show.
