South Riding

In 1930s Britain, amidst economic depression and World War I's lingering scars, Sarah Burton, a young and passionate headmistress, returns to her hometown with modern ideas. She inspires her students, including Lydia Holly, a scholarship student from the slums, to think independently. However, not everyone shares Miss Burton's vision, and she finds herself at odds with haughty landlord Robert Carne.
