A genuine story about many girls from "up-North" who tried to escape the dullness of 1960s Britain in search of fun and excitement in London. Well-drawn characters that are easy to identify with, ruthless executives without a hint of humor, some genuinely funny lines and physical comedy moments. As a writer myself, I understand the challenges faced by Mary Whitehouse in the 60's and early 70's with her moral crusade against TV. She would be spinning in her grave at what we see on screen today. Laugh and cry equally as you follow the Blackpool beauty queen on her journey through pitfalls and excitement. Having worked in Oxford Street in the 1980s, nothing had changed in the canteens from the 60's; they were still very recognizable! Lots of original footage interwoven with the main character galavanting through London. Watch it back to back on Catch-up, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
